Treating Acne
Active Acne should be treated first by topical creams. Oral medications can be added if more severe. Only in the most severe cases and under exceptional circumstance would steroid injections be indicated. Steroid injections have its disadvantages. We only use it rarely because we have a few novel methods to deal with acne and oily skin of moderate to severe degrees. These novel methods are:
- 5 ALA Photodynamic Therapy, the "magic bullet" that kills bacteria and unhealthy cells within the crypts of acne lesion. Even cystic acne can be effectively treated.
- Cooltouch itself, although marketed as a treatment for acne scars, is very good at controlling acne in its early stages. It can also be used to prevent acne in acne prone individuals whose acne is not controllable by the usual creams and oral medications.
- IPL combined with Intradermal BOTOX.
Post Acne Marks (PIH)
Post acne marks, the brown marks left behind by acne are also called PIH (Post-Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation). The trick here is to prevent subsequent waves of acne. Combinations of Intradermal BOTOX with either IPL or Cooltouch can decrease inflammation and inhibit a few waves of breakouts. Without any new inflammation, PIH heals and skin takes on a very refined appearance.
